40th General Assembly of the Association of Public Postal Operators of Europe - PostEurop 2024

17. October 2024.

The General Assembly of the Association of Public Postal Operators of Europe - PostEurop 2024, brought together representatives from 55 public postal operators across 53 member countries. This year’s host for the assembly and business forum was Post of Serbia. The event took place from October 15 to 17 in Belgrade. The entire event management and production, including concept creation, visual identity, and all aspects of execution, were entrusted to the Balkan Perspectives Today team.

About the conference

In October 2023, Pošta Srbije was honored in Bratislava with the opportunity to host the upcoming PostEurop General Assembly, a significant recognition of its role, competence, and contribution to the European postal sector.

The PostEurop General Assembly, hosted by Serbia and produced by Balkan Perspectives Today, met the high technical and technological standards befitting this important international gathering.

At the opening ceremony, Elena Fernandez Rodriguez, Chair of the PostEurop Board of Directors, expressed gratitude to Pošta Srbije for its active participation and contributions to the organization. She emphasized the importance of such gatherings as opportunities to improve the postal industry, tackle challenges, and shape strategies for the future of European postal operators.

The General Assembly program included discussions on key issues for the development of the postal industry in Europe, with a particular focus on innovation and digital transformation. This event drew the attention of the sector's top leaders, and Masahiko Metoki, Director General of the Universal Postal Union, addressed the assembly via video link, providing a global perspective on current postal trends.

Zoran Anđelković, Director of Pošta Srbije, noted that Serbia is the fastest-growing country in Europe. "As Pošta Srbije, we want to stay at the forefront of implementing artificial intelligence. By the end of the year, we will have robotized our five logistics centers in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Niš, and Kraljevo," Anđelković stated, welcoming the assembly participants.

A particularly engaging part of the conference focused on the role of artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies in improving postal services—a topic that is gaining increasing importance in the digital era. Science Minister Jelena Begović reflected on the transformation of the postal industry, which now goes beyond traditional services and has become a crucial factor in digitalization and economic development. She emphasized that Serbia is actively engaged in these processes, highlighting the importance of the UN-adopted resolution on the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development as a framework for future innovations.

The Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Dejan Ristić, expressed pride that Serbia is the only country to host the PostEurop General Assembly for the second time, following the Belgrade meeting in 2012. He added that Belgrade is now, for the first time, hosting the Business Forum, an event that brings together key players from the European postal industry. He underscored the importance of modernizing traditional postal services with technologies such as parcel lockers, vending machines, and robots to strengthen the postal industry in the digital age.

PostEurop, which has brought together European postal operators since 1993, demonstrated its commitment to the strategic development of the industry and support for public postal operators through knowledge sharing and the implementation of modern technologies with this event.

With a complex production setup that included live broadcasts from multiple countries, simultaneous translation into multiple languages, and high technical standards, the conference was executed to the highest standards, thanks to the precise work of the Balkan Perspectives Today team, which ensured a seamless experience for all participants.

Belgrade

Belgrade

Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkan Peninsula. The urban area of Belgrade has a population of 1.23 million, while nearly 1.7 million people live within the administrative limits of the City of Belgrade. Its name means “white city.” One of the most important prehistoric cultures of Europe, the Vinča culture, evolved within the Belgrade area in the 6th millennium BC. Throughout history, Belgrade was conquered several times. Due to its perilous strategic position, the city has taken part in over 115 wars and been destroyed 44 times. It has been the capital of Serbia since 1405 and it was the capital of Yugoslavia from its creation in 1918 to its dissolution.
